Abstract

We discuss the conditions in which guided and plasmonic modes exist in air-core fibers with anisotropic, uniaxal metamaterial cladding. We illustrate that these hollow-core fibers can offer single/multi-mode sub-wavelength guidance, with diameters more than ten times smaller than the operating wavelengths.
