Seventeen years of the META conference

META began in Marrakesh in May 2008 with about 220 participants. Within eight years the conference had grown more than fourfold: Singapore 2014 gathered around 645 researchers, New York 2015 about 705, and Malaga 2016 reached roughly 955. Lisbon 2019 confirmed that scale with about 910 participants and 893 accepted papers from 42 countries.

The pandemic interrupted the series once. The 2020 edition was cancelled and merged into META 2021, held online from Warsaw with 341 registered participants. In-person meetings resumed in Torremolinos in 2022 (685 participants, 211 of them online), and the conference has held a steady size since: 958 in Paris 2023, 932 in Toyama 2024, 964 in Torremolinos 2025 and 962 in Dublin 2026, each time with delegates from 42 to 44 countries.

Across sixteen editions on four continents, close to 10,800 participations have been recorded. META 2027 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, is the seventeenth. Submit a paper by February 12, 2027, or see the important dates.
